Mary’s Corner – Winter Cottage Christmas Cards

Project Information

Create these homespun holiday cards for cherished friends and family this season!  Snowflakes, stars and buttons give a cozy, handmade yet elegant feel to these keepsakes.

These were inspired by our home decor designer friend Paula Buttel, who uses stars, snowflakes and buttons in whimsical yet elegant winter themes.  We will send her one of these cards this year and we hope it brings her joy throughout the chilly months ahead.

Dimensions

The finished cards are A2-sized, square (6″x6″) and A7-sized.

Here are the exact shapes, sizes and colors that we used for each card.  Clicking on the collection name (in white) will take you to our shop where you can check out the necessary files!

Design Tips

  • We used Stickles glitter glue (Xmas Red and Green) to lightly accent a few shapes, such as the holly on the A7 (largest) card.
  • We seized a few opportunities to use our new Cuttlebug (so fun!) – we embossed the big red heart with a paisley pattern.  We also embossed a strip of buttons on the sage green strip on the A7 card.
  • If you’re working with a Baby Bug (12×6 mat), you can make the A2 card and the square card as shown, but the envelopes are too large to make on that mat size.  I have seen A2-sized envelopes made by DCWV sold in packages of 20 or so.
  • Rub a brown ink pad around the edges of most of the shapes to add a subtle distressed touch.  Also add three sparkly red gemstones to the 3D holly on the square card for a nice touch.
  • We lightly sprayed each card with Marshmallow Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels to give them a fine sparkly sheen.
  • We tied some fun stitched ribbon on the two large buttons and some pretty ribbon on the square card (18″ of two coordinating styles) – all from Michaels.
  • Even if you don’t make the cards exactly as shown, we hope we’ve inspired you in your own creativity!
