  1. Letter Face – Open the Classic Christmas Advent Calendar SVG Kit and break apart/group the doors separately for days 1, 4, 11 and 15. Save. Copy door 1.
  2. On a new page, open the letter M that you need from the 3D Letters SVG Kit, adjust to the correct size, and paste in the door 1 in the bottom middle. Save.
  3. Repeat for the rest of the doors as shown in the diagram. If there is a door that is used more than once on a certain letter, you can copy and paste. Cut.
  4. Do this for the rest of the letters.
  5. Compartments – open the Classic Christmas Advent Calendar SVG Kit and break apart/group the compartments separately for days 1, 4, 11 and 15. Keep the same width, but adjust the height only to match the depth of the 3D letters. Cut all the compartments.
  6. Doors – Cut.
  7. Assembly – You will need to trim off the folding tabs (for both compartment and letters side tabs much thinner to fit the space. Try to keep the areas where it’s not necessary to trim the tab at its full width. This will keep it more stable when gluing. Glue the compartments first and then the letter sides.
  8. Fill the bottom portion of the letter with a heavy weight material and then finish off the letter by gluing the back. Mary has a great video on the assembly – (put a link to the video)
  9. Add the ’front’ of the door, add dates, and embellish as needed.

Design Tips

Thienly - SVGCuts Design Team Artist

  1. Pick a style/theme that you’d like and stay with it. Don’t try to add so many elements – it can become too busy. If you work with a certain paper collection – pick out the colors off from it.
  2. I inked the edges of the letters and some of the embellishments with a similar ink color of the cut outs. It brings out the elements enough without adding too much.
  3. Don’t be intimidated to use embellishments in place of an SVG. For example, I added pearls inside the poinsettia, used twine instead of ties for the car, and buttons for berries. Adding a different element gives a character and dimension to your project.
  4. If you’re thinking of using different elements, cut out all the elements that you need, make sure that the colors and the size of them balance on the letters before gluing all of them down.

Wouldn’t this be so fun to open them with your kids every morning? Don’t be intimidated from this project – all you need to begin is the Classic Christmas Advent Calendar SVG Kit and the 3D Letters SVG Kit to begin. The rest is up to you! Try making them with different words, or even make one to countdown to a birthday or even a wedding! Have fun!

Thienly  i am so excited to make this calendar.  I have friends out of state and this is going to make them soo happy!!  I have been getting this ready to cut and have had a problem bringing the score lines and number markings with interior boxes and face.  is there a step I am missing?  I am planning on just hand scoring them, but if you know an easy secret, that would help.   Thanks for all your great projects they really make me happy!  Kandy Buck

    • Thienly November 22, 2011 at 12:30 pm #

Kandy – Thanks for your comment and wanting to make this project! I am so honored that you’re making them for your friends! Anyway, as for the score lines and number markings, make sure that you break apart all the elements separately, select the score lines/box/numbers together and group them to make it easier to move them.  Does that help???  Let me know if there are any more questions – I’d love to help you along!

This is so great, I have a couple of nice books of paper and this will be perfect. Is their a reason why all the doors have to be those numbers? Did you do it because of the size of the 3D letters. I have not purchased the 3D letters yet because I didn’t think of a use for them until now. Your projects are so great. I print them all out so when I get all the kits I can make them. I am going to purchase 3D letters right now !

One other thought, I am thinking of hanging these rather then weighting down them, my mantle and other table holds my villages so I thought on the wall. Do you think it would work? The other reason is I have 3 dogs and if at their level I would wake up to a lot of empty candy wrapers on the floor. I can see them sniffing it right now. LOL

I am going to make my daughters name advent calendar first as a trial her 16th birthday is Nov. 13th and trust me she is counting down. I better get to work if I am going to have it done 25 days before her birthday.

    Thanks again.
