Come March 31st, 2012, Facebook’s all-new “Timeline” will be the default layout for all “fan” pages! We’ve heard mixed reviews from our community and we’re here to put your concerns to rest and show you how cool “Timeline” really is!
As you have probably noticed, we’ve already converted to the new “Timeline” layout. Yes, we’re embracing it! Initially (like everyone else), I was confused, but it only took a minute to figure out that it actually makes sense and will help keep our posts more prominent while still giving you the ability to see all of the content generated by our fans!
Where are the photos, videos and challenges?
Challenges, photo and video galleries, events and other apps are at the top of the page now! (See Figure-A) Under the old layout, these icons were tiny and barely noticeable! Our photos and challenges are so important to our community, why not make them more visible?!
Where did the fan posts go?
They didn’t go anywhere! By default, the new “Timeline” prioritizes our content, but with two clicks of a mouse, you can see everyone’s posts! Simply click on the drop-down located beneath the main header and select “Posts by Others” to see posts from the people in our community! (See Fig-B)
It’s very simple and ensures that you don’t miss any of our wonderful giveaways, promotions, products or design team projects! How many times have you kicked yourself for not getting a chance to enter to win a Sizzix eclips or a Big Shot? It usually happens because our posts get bumped down by fan posts. Those days are long gone!
In addition, we now have the ability to “pin” important posts so that they stay on top of our Facebook page. Next time we have a giveaway, you won’t have to dig for it! We’ll pin it and you’ll be sure to see it!
I miss the old way!
You can still scroll through fan posts in a linear fashion! Simply click on the “See All” link next to the “Recent Posts by Others on SVGCuts” box! (See Fig-C) This will pop-up a window that displays recent posts in the good old way we are all familiar with! Cool right?
So it’s not that big of a deal?
Nope! The new timeline moves around some icons, gives us a huge banner (which we love since we are so photo-centric) and ensures that you don’t miss a beat! Unfortunately, we have no choice in the matter, but we can choose to embrace the change and realize that it’s for the best!
See you on Facebook! ~ Leo

Such a big change!! love the fact that I can jump to the month and year surrounding a holiday to see posts around that time and gather inspiration!! gotta look for the positive in all situations!
Leo, you did a wonderful job explaining the new timeline…thanks! There’s been a number of times I’ve looked for one of your posts and couldn’t find it. It was very beneficial for you to take this time to cover the basics! Another tutorial well done! :)
Eh, i am not impressed with timeline, and have found content harder to find with it on some sites. But i can’t stop it, either! LOL
Thanks not so scared for the new layout now :)
You have greatly reassured me on the new Timeline. I don’t really have any opinion other than I was nervous about things I heard about it causing some people problems, but mostly that seemed to be because of pictures that would now be visible to people they might not have wanted to see them. I really appreciate the time you took to explain. You can bet I will be watching those pinned top posts which indicate contests. I would love to win something sometime.
Thanks for the explanation!
I think the timeline is nicer for the owners and it’s just gonna take the surfer’s a little bit to get used to. It’s definately more eye pleasing. :=)
Just love your tutorial over your page. And the “pin” is awesome
I really do not care for the new timeline. However, you did a very good job of explaining it and made it easier to understand. Thanks!
Still on the fence about the layout. Hopefully overtime I will embrace the changes.
I would follow SVG Cuts to the moon and back if I had to. I chat more with everyone on your site than I do to my family lol..the ones that don’t live with me that is. Thanks for coming into my world of crafting.!!!!!
Change is good, we just have to get use up it.
I love the new Timeline!
I love the bigger pictures, i hate to switch between the page post and others post
I love that everything is there at a touch (no scrolling for hours to find a post from last year or even last month), but hate that everytime we just get used to/ comfortable with a new layout, they change it on us!
Not liking the new timeline. Before I was able to find sites and blogs and now i cannot find anything! TFS CallyAnn
I love your new banner! But I hate that it only lets a defined number of posts show at a time, then it shows the previous month. I also don’t like that all fan posts are in one box and not attached to the original post, unless you click on the post. But I will go to your page no matter what the layout.
Thank you for the easy to understand information. I’m still not ready to change, I can’t figure out what I want to use for my Big picture!
I like the larger photo-layout, and the ability to make things more or less important. I am still learning to find things – I wish that Facebook would not condense posts so much. Very nice article, I appreciated it!
At first I wasn’t a fan of the new timeline but getting used to it. I do like the idea of being able to click on the month to find a certain picture/project. i like the larger pictures too. Your timeline looks great.
I’m not completely sold on the new timeline, but given time I think I can adjust. But until I adjust I feel like I’m missing a lot of post’s and pictures of peoples newest crafts. Time will tell!!!
I like the new timeline because I like the cover photo concept and possibilities… I like how SVG Cuts has been using the timeline! Thanks for all that you do on the technology side for us, Leo!
The new timeline seems good…I like that I now won’t have to dig through everyone’s posts to see yours or any contests.
I don’t know why all the hype it won’t last 6 months until they will change it again. So don’t get all worked up about this. Just relax and wait for the new reveal in a few months.
I think it is quicker to find previous info that was posted. We all will have to get used to these changes. With Leo’s great explanations to fall back on, it will help tremendously.
I am usually the “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it” kind of gal. I can see the merits of the new timeline. At first, I didn’t like it all. I think it was because I’m old, tired, and cranky. Ha! Ha! I just didn’t want to have to click a lot of stuff just to see all the posts. I am sure I will like it as I get used to it. I have the timeline on my page too. I am slowly warming up to it.
I appreciate your tips for the new timeline :) It will just take some time to get used to.
Thanks for the wonderful Timeline tutorial, Leo!!! Now because of you, I understand this default layout and love it. It’s great having all the important information in front of you or just a push of a button away. : )
Initially, I didn’t like the new timeline at all, but more and more of my friends have switched voluntarily. The more I review, the more I am warming up to the concept. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
I don’t likethe new timeline look because everytime I get use to one thing with FB, they go and change it.
Facebook is notorious for changing things up just as we are getting used to the last changes they made. But I’ll embrace the timeline changes since there isn’t really a choice because I don’t want to miss out on a single thing you guys do!! The thing I dislike about it most is that they have two columns of posts. I understand that they branch off from the middle timeline, but it’s confusing to the eye and dumb. :)
Haven’t gotten Timeline yet, but by what you say……it’s going to be easier NOT to miss anything. That’s always a good thing !
Thanks for putting it in a totally different perspective for us Leo! I have not yet changed to the new “Timeline” layout because most of the time I just log on from my smart phone. Now that I have recently bought the Gazelle & found your amazing designs to work with I have been on the computer a lot more and have been noticing the new “Timeline” more. It sure is taking a while to get get use to. Thanks again for sharing your opinion, I am sure looking forward to finding the “Giveaways” more easier and being able to enter every drawling. :)
I have been having a difficut time with the time line! Trying to post pictures hasn’t been good! Really did like it better the old way! Oh well, better put on the big girl pants and figure it out!! Christina ccapps35@gmail.com
I think it is going to be confusing for me for awhile util I can get use to it, but why change things when it is working just fine
To play devils advocate, I think they will get a lot of complaints.
The only thing I like about it is the banner picture but that is because I LOVE ya’lls product & the banner picture shows it off very well. I’m not fond of the new Timeline layout as I find it hard to read. I like to read the type & not figure out where to jump to next. I’m sure it is easy for some but for me I like it the other way. Its too much like a blog & I read enough of those already….LOL! Love ya’lls work, keep it coming & I hope that my income tax check comes in soon so I can start buying again! Love ya’ll!!!
I’m sort of undecided about it. However, we have to embrace change. If we don’t we will be left behind.
hate it, too hard to find things!!
I don’t particularly like the new timeline, but don’t hate it either. I guess it will take a while to get used to, but I’ll deal with it. I do like the banner photo at the top though!
I don’t care for the timeline. I think it works for businesses such as yours but don’t like it for regular profiles. I personally think it makes profiles look cluttered and like the simple layout before. I wish we could chose which we would like as our layout instead of having it forced on us. But like I said it seems to do well for businesses especially those in crafting that have projects and ideas posted through out the year.
I love the large Picture at the top of the timeline!Still trying to get used to everything else.
Thanks for the chance to win! Lord knows I have spent a lot there!
I haven’t made the change yet…I usually like to wait a little bit until the “kinks” are out of it and it’s running smoothly. I’ll get “aroundtoit” soon!
I haven’t changed yet, but I know I will be forced to eventually. I am not sure I like it and the fact that the posts are all over the place.
Just like anything new, there will be a learning curve. Perseverance- all fans will find what they really want!
I like the new Timeline, because it makes ‘Search’ much easier!!
I like the big big pic but thats about it!
I think the timeline is ok. I’m slowly learning it. I do like all the big pics!
I love being able to find pictures based on a certain time of year. It saves me alot of searching.
I like the new timeline and know that the more I use it the easier it will be to understand all its new ideas.
im finding it a bit confusing, but i will have to get used to it!
I think it just takes getting used to. It sure looks good on SVGCuts :)
the new timeline’s ok, but it’s taking alot of getting used to.
Good evening … I read this the other day and I can say one thing for all of you at SVGCUTS …you are awesome to make such a NOTIFICATION to all of us concerning this issue. I love the new HUGE picture of TL and don’t really hate anything about it. Just new and we have to get use to it and that won’t keep me from being a *stalker* on your page! Which by the way…it looks really good! :) Chin up and I just say put on your *big girl panties* bahaha! Thanks for a chance to win!
As with everything, change happens and we all have to agree to deal with it. It will take some getting used to but I still love SVG!!! You all rock!
I don’t know how I feel about it yet. It has its Pro’s and Con’s. I like the picture banner at the top. But it takes some getting used to finding things and reading post. I cant seem to find all the post I used to get. But I think your tutorial will help me out some.

I think once I get used to the new format, I’ll be okay. I haven’t had to convert my own page, yet, and that might change my feelings, though!
I don’t really like the timeline, but I guess it can’t be avoided. The timeline concept was good, but facebook didn’t do a well thought out plan -in my opinion. Things are too hard to find now, and the dual columns make the layout too cluttered. And I dislike being “forced” into a new format, when the one we were used to was just fine. Now we have to make extra clicks to see the content we are after. The only good thing to the timeline is the big pictures at the top, and you being able to pin updates.
I guess don’t like or not like the new timeline. I rarely go to my own wall to begin with and do most of my FB’ing from the news feed.
It’s coming whether we want it to or not. Initially I don’t like change, but that’s just me in general. I do want to thank you for making it sound easier and how it works. I hope I like it. :)
Most people don’t like change and will be needing a tutorial on it for sure. So I guess if you don’t mind making one. It should be just fine. Me I am fine with it<<<
I do most of my FB on my cell with the newsfeed – can’t see that changing any time soon.
just have to embrace the change
Hard to get used to….. but I guess it is here to stay!
I love the new “timeline” I was excited the minute I spied it on someone else’s wall! I’m a photographer/scrapper/artist and it’s right up my alley!
I just don’t like it. Guess I will have to get used to it but it just seems harder for me to find when someone comments on my craft page. I did find I can change the view but wish it would stay that way every time I go there.
Not as easy to use as the old set up. Not real happy with the change.
I like the pictures in timeline and that is about it. If I ever have to find a post it takes me a long time as it’s just too confusing!
I still have not converted but the more I see it –I think it’ll all be OKAY:))
I really dislike the timeline for many reasons. For one, I hate that they are forcing it upon us. It looks incredibly cluttered and messy and impossible to find anything. Also, posts from December keep showing up at the top of the page. Not sure how that makes any sense if they are indeed trying to make it like a timeline and show current posts. Not very good programming if you ask me. The last thing I care about is a post from 3 months ago; it’s current posts I am interested in. The only thing about it I do like is the nice big header, but as far as I’m concerned, that’s it. It’s not something I’m hurrying to embrace in spite of the fact we have no choice as of next week. I’m just glad it isn’t available for the kindle/phone, etc… so I can view the way I like still! I also have chrome so if it really bugs me I’ll just view it in Chrome!
I like it! I don’t have a problem with it at all. :)
It will take some getting used to. I don’t like that I just can’t look up and see the new picture of something someone made while working my my stuff but I do like that I can find out what contest and stuff is going on by just looking at the page and I do like the big photo of your stuff. Like I said this old dog just needs to learn the new tricks.
I am probably like most and don’t like change. I feel I don’t like change cause I have to stop doing something that I am comfortable with. well it was really nice of you to take the time to break it down and take the fear out of change old ways.I will look differently at a change from now on. Thanks for all you an may do. Take good care.
I like the change and it is easy to see everything.
I like the banner picture with the Timeline format but I find the whole thing rather busy and looks disorganized. I guess what you know is easy and what you don’t know is hard…I’ll adjust :-)
I do like the change, I have had it for a while. It takes getting used to but once you do you will like it. Love the banner!
I will visit no matter how it looks :).
would rather spend my time scrapping than trying to figure out the new look! How’s that for a random comment?
After reading you explanation, I’m thinking the timeline is looking better to me – thanks for the easy-to-understand explanation!
Change is difficult but we will get use to is. I just love love your page and will adjust.
love your showcase thru timeline!
I know things change, but I wish they would quit messing with it. This is a big change and I will get used to it, but you know sooner or later they are going to mess it up to the point people will be tired of it and just stop going to facebook.
I don’t mind the new changes.
The change seems like it will make things better, I just don’t like change!
Lookin Good!!!!!!
I originally hated Timeline, but now that I have read your post and had a chance to look it over it isn’t sooo bad. I still haven’t switched over, but I still go in and look at what my facebook page will look like and am familiarizing myself we some of the features. It is what it is a change and a lot of people hate change, but you can’t stop it.
Sounds cool. I hadn’t really paid that much attention to the changes. Thanks!
I like the timeline and and for me nothing is missing *cool*
Change, it has become second nature. All I know is that I will continue to visit SVG cuts and shop with you whenever the budget allows. Love your items. Thanks for the chance to win!
I don’t like it. It just seems to be so chaotic. And even the young crowd doesn’t seem to welcome it. What does that tell you?
Oh, it wil seem normal after a few weeks and we will wonder what we were flapping about :D Great tutorial – thank you!
I like that one can see all of the Pictures without having to enlarge them.
Really…really neat Timeline you’ve made here Leo & mary! I like it!
Janice
In a year we won’t hardly remember the old way. Change is the only constant and it is always the hardest thing to do. Change takes time to understand. I like the new timeline, it is the same as the old way it just has a new dressing.
I don’t know that I don’t like it I just get lost. Not sure how to read the timeline
I will get use to it sooner are later :-}
I know people say it’s easy, but I get confused with the new layout to find stuff.. personally, I don’t like this Facebook gimmick, I find it harder to find stuff and see it in sequence. I like your article above, and the appearance of the new SVG page, just harder for me to use.
I also don’t like this new ‘Disqus’ method of leaving comments.. apparently you need your pop up blocker to be off to leave the comments, and it’s a pain to sign in as a Facebook person as I have to turn off my pop up to do that, one would suppose (I didn’t get it done using my Facebook sign in) I signed in as a guest… so do you know my email addy for a prize/contest? Why in HEAVENS do we need to input a password, etc. just to leave a comment, I liked the OLD method MUCH better… less time consuming and aggravating!
It’s not bad, just different. I’m sure we will get used to it. Just a little learning curve.
Sorry but I still don’t like it. It appears that you write on one side of the page and we write on the other. Do we ever get it together? I liked things just appearing in chronological order like it was before, then when something was added to the post it went back to the top for us to see the new additional comments. I guess I’m from the “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” team.
I don’t see how I will get used to it if I can’t understand what I am doing.
Never learned the old layout, lol! So this shouldnt be so hard.
I still dont like it. We should no matter what have the choice.
Ok – HOw do you PIN something to the top of your timeline page?? I would love to do that on MY page!?!? Leo?? Or anyone? Please let me know!
Ruth Gillis Stevens!
