We’ve gotcha covered now on cute owls!  A fan on Facebook recently pointed out that all the owls we had before were either too academic and scholarly or too serious.  We needed some cute owls, suitable for baby and kid projects and just cute projects in general.  Just size each layer of your owl to the same width (while keeping the proportions) and the pieces will fit together properly.  Size the bottom layer first to see how tall your finished owl will be, and then match the other layers to that width.  Happy crafting!

SVG Kit Description

Everyone likes to feel special on their birthday, and it’s the little, thoughtful things that can really make a person’s day.  Make your next birthday celebration extra-special with the 3D Cupcake Container or the Three-Tier Cake Boxes.  These projects really show off your prettiest paper and depending on what paper and colors you use, can be “cute,” “elegant,” or “chic and modern,” etc.  Make one of the cards to coordinate–your download includes everything shown, including the Cupcake Lever Card and the Happy Birthday Card (both with envelopes).  The Party Hat is all one piece and doesn’t even require gluing.  Its scalloped edges add fun flair and it’s super easy to tie some thin elastic through its holes.  (You’d be surprised how just putting on a party hat makes you look and feel like being silly and celebrating!  Also makes for great photos!)

The finished Party Hat measures about 6″ tall.  The finished 3D Cupcake Container is about 4.5″ tall, both cards are about 7×4″, and the finished stack of boxes is about 8″ tall.

Dimensions

Here are the exact shapes, sizes and colors I used. Size to the dimensions shown below. If chart only indicated width OR height, Use “Keep Properties” or “Aspect Lock” to size files.

Instructions

1. Cut all pieces for the drum. Assemble as shown by Mary’s video. I would suggest if you haven’t made one of these yet, to make sure and watch that. It is easy, though. Use adhesive back pearls for over the holes meant for brads on the bottom rim. Cover each hole. Attach lace around the bottom rim.
2. For the hearts around the top rim, use the file from Valentines SVG Collection, red.svg. Snip off the wings, keeping only the heart. For the heart layered on the top of that, use the file pink.svg, using only the single small heart. Save the flourish for another project. Ink the edges of the hearts as it adds a nice touch. Space out over every other hole along the top rim that was meant for brads. You could use any heart shape svg you’d like, these are just the ones I chose because they are a bit longer and more narrow to go between those holes. Attach adhesive back pearls to the holes not covered by a heart.
3. Cut the pieces for the centerpiece heart. The scalloped heart, the Be Mine heart, and the Be Mine heart/shadow blackout. Ink the edges. Assemble with dimensional adhesive. Attach to the rim on an angle. Refer to my photo if that helps.
4. The paper pack from Cosmo Cricket, Clementine, came with a pattern that had some vintage feel images. I cut those out as they were just squares. If you don’t have that paper, or use something else, fill in with what you have or cut some different hearts. I used these around the bottom rim. Again, refer to my photo.
5. For the candy, I used the heart from Be Mine Valentine collection in the oval card. I used black out to get a solid heart. Cut two for every peppermint patty you use. Ink the edges. I used my ATG gun to attach these to the candy piece.
6. Cut the same heart out at. Ink the edges. Use a foam dimensional to layer on the previous heart. I always use a white gel pen for accents, but you don’t have to. I also added Stickles glitter around the edges. Assemble the peppermint patty ”sandwiches”. Tie twine bows if desired to add to the top heart.
7. Fill your box with some grass or other filler, or simply fill with different Valentine candies. Nestle you nice little peppermint patties on the top.

Design Tips

1. Use papers from one collection, as they are designed to coordinate. Choose solid papers that match your designer papers.
2. Take time to ink the edges, it really does make a difference. If desired, you can use your embossing folders as well. I did not use mine on this project.
3. I love using my white gel pen. It’s just a look I like. You may or may not choose to do this. Me? I can’t leave it off!
4. Fibers and laces always add a nice touch, especially for Valentines Day.
5. REALLY take your time putting the drum together. The neater you do this part, the nicer the finished project looks. Watch Mary’s video if that helps, and it will help. She does a great job on her instructions.
6. I used the same heart for several things. Referring to the chart will tell which size I used for which item. I would suggest doing all of one thing at a time. Do all the peppermint patties. Then do the centerpiece image and you will be finished with that particular heart. As I stated earlier, you can use whatever heart you would like for this project. If you refer to my photo, you should be able to see where I used what.
7. Make this your own. Use your favorite colors, textures, and embellishments. Most of all, have fun crafting!

I love versatile containers! This drum is one of those, as is the pumpkin file. By changing up the papers and adding occasion-specific images, it will look totally different every time you make one. Instructions

1. In Ecal or Scal overlay your Asian designs from the Chinese New Year SVG Kit on top of velum.svg file. To do this, you will need to break them apart, select the pieces you want to use, than lay them on top of the window sections. (See Diagram)
2. Cut all your SVGCuts.com files
3. Glue the cut out window sections (gold paper) to the larger window sections (copy paper or velum).
4. Assemble lantern as shown in Mary’s video ”Crisp Days Of Fall” the only difference will be the way you attach the window sections. Attach them on the outside rather than the inside. This will give you a nice white boarder around the edge. (I used copy paper for the window/velum sections, because I felt it gives it a true paper lantern look and you don’t have to make a special trip to the craft store for velum).
5. Using your Copic markers or ink the sides of the lantern, window designs, flowers and butterflies to give added dimension.
6. Curl your flowers – there is a great video demo by Mary on 3D flowers that gives great tips.
7. Glue on your Cherry Blossom flowers, to the top of the lantern, draping and overlapping them for a 3D look.
8. Glue your butterflies together, remember to only glue the center body section to give them a fluttery look. then glue them on.
9. Wire Hanger – Use the bottom section of your gold wire hanger, you can cut it with wire cutters or just bend it back and forth a few times and it will give a nice clean break. Then bend to fit your lantern. (You could also use any wire you like)
10. Insert your battery powerd L.E.D light and enjoy. ☺

Design Tips

Fleurette - SVGCuts Design Team Artist

1. Use double sided paper on the flowers and butterflies, so the underside is just as pretty as the topside.
2. I love using the Copic markers to edge my projects, as opposed to ink because, I have so much more control, it’s just so much easier (using the Copic blender on top of the marker, will really give it a beautiful blended look).
3. I like to use copy paper instead of velum, because I always have it on hand and the light glows nicely thru it.
4. I used Asian digital papers that I found at digitalscrapbookpages.com (Garden of Hope Art Papers for the body of the lantern (village scene), Garden of Hope Papers for the butterflies (blue with touches of pink) and (gold) for the window sections. I brightened these up in Photoshop.
5. I used Digital paper from designhousedigital.com for the Cherry blossoms (Vintage Findings – Pink Paris Digital Papers By Jen Allyson) Pink polka-dot pattern.
6. Using the digital papers gives you complete control over color and hue along with the ability to make any paper double sided.

Love Bug Heart Box

1. Cut and assemble box
2. Cut and assemble ladybug, add eyes.
3. Cut ’v_strip_top.svg’ this will be the leaves used for ALL projects. Add two leaves to the box with a button and twine.
4. Create ’love bug’ caption and adhere with 3D foam.
5. Cut pennants and string through twine, tie bows and adhere.

Bee Mine Hanging Box

1. Open box and size to 11.40w. Break apart and remove heart shape. Open scalloped heart SVG and replace. Heart sould be sized to 3.968w. cut the ’frame’ for the scalloped heart and adhere over the window with 3D foam adhesive.
2. Cut bee, assemble, adhere eyes and adhere to box. Bend the wings up a bit.
3. Cut ’bee Mine’ caption and adhere with 3D foam. Add a button and twine.
4. Punch holes in the side of the box, crimp on eyelets (white).
5. Strng pennants through jewelry wire, strng through eyelets, then curl ends. (I curled mine around a pencil)

Some Buggy Loves You Card

1. Open the scalloped circle, weld two together to form a card base. Cut.
2. Cut the scalloped circle frame and adhere to the card front with 3D foam.
3. Cut the ant, adhere eyes and the heart. Looks cute to stick the heart under the ants arm!
4. Cut the daisies and adhere with some leftover leaves. Embellish with buttons.

U Make My Heart Flutter Goodie Box

1. Cut the box bottom, assemble. For the lid, break it apart and cut hearts separately. One heart goes on each side, the other goes over the leaves.
2. Cut and aseemble butterfly, adhere eyes and a 3” wire.
3. Poke a tiny hole through the lid, and stick the wire attached to the butterfly through. bend about 1/2 in and adhere with hot glue.
4. Embellish the base of the wire with heart, leaves and button.
5. Cut caption and adhere with 3D foam.

Daisy Standing Card

1. Open card base and break apart. Open the scalloped oval and replace for a new ’window’. Cut then assemble.
2. Cut the frame in light blue glitter paper and adhere. Add little hearts along the side using some 3D foam.
3. Cut grass (make sure you add the shadow layer to thicken it!). Trim off excess sides of grass and adhere to the front and inside of the card. The grass on the INSIDE of the card will need to be adhered with 3D foam so you can slip the stick of the lollipop behind it. Use a piece of double sided tape to hold lollipop in place.
4. Cut daisy petals and adhere to the lollipop, embellish with button and twine and the ’welded’ leftover leaf.
5. Cut, assemble and adhere the snail.

Design Tips

1. 3D foam gives dimension to the Valentine’s.. I love using 3D adhesive foam!
2. For the standing daisy card, use the blank layer hat goes over the back for your kiddos to write cute messages to their friends!
3. Glitter paper really helps bring these to life!
4. Try using some other fun SVG collections to create your very own themed Valentine’s!
5. I love using wire to make diecuts ’fly’ such as the butterfly!

I truly hope you ’loved’ my project and feel inspired to create your own simple Valentine’s with your children, grandchildren, little-ones, etc. These don’t take a lot of steps and you can easily make several in a day! And what child wouldn’t LOVE these? Especially filled with yummy treats! Enjoy!

Instructions

1. Start with a 12”x12” patterned paper. I used one that features some glitter. I used Bo Bunny Snowfall Collection.
2. Cut the scallop shapes. After placing into your program select Break Apart and delete the hole from the tag. Adhere the brown scallop. For the middle scallop I applied glimmer mist. This is one of the top trends of 2012 – Use inks, mists and sprays to get “artsy”. Adhere the middle and top scallop shapes.
3. Add the horizontal strip. It helps to anchor the page. I cut mine using a manual trimmer. Cut and add the scallop shapes.
4. Cut the frames for the photos. I threaded twine/hemp cord. This is also a 2012 scrapbook trend – Tie It Up by using twine on your layout. Adhere the frames to the layout. Add your photos.
5. Cut and assemble the snowflake. Add foam tape to add dimension.
6. Cut and assemble the SNOW title. Add a bit of twine to accent. Once again add foam tape to make it pop.
7. Cut the tag. I added a twine bow. The third trend I used was Make a List. I used some sticker numbers and hand wrote the tag. You could also print out the wording and apply to the tag. Adhere tag to the layout.
8. Cut and adhere the little boys sledding to the top right of the layout.

Design Tips

• When selecting papers stick to one line, all the coordinating is done for you. Make sure you pick up some solids to match the line. In this case I used AC Cardstock and Glitter Paper from Best Creation. Patterns against patterns may get too busy so use solids to break it up a bit.
• If you are using a two sided paper don’t forget to flip it over, even after you cut it, to see if you the opposite side works better with your layout. I did this on my small scallop.
• Don’t forget just because you may have the free tag SVG doesn’t mean you can’t enlarge it to fill your page and use as the scallop background. Remember to use the shadow feature within the program. More layers of paper add interest to the layout.
• When you get a new Kit or Collection check out all elements. For example I used the scallop strips from the 6x8x2 Box for this layout. Just because it is an element from a 3D item does not mean you can’t use it on a 2D layout.
• Inking the elements will add interest and texture.
• Don’t forget to add some embellishments.

Hope you like my SNOW layout. Keep in mind if you don’t have snow where you live just swap out the winter elements and paper to match the theme of your photos. You could still keep the general layout with scallops, frame and tag.
