Mary's Corner - Love You Scrapbook Page

I just LOVE the way this Valentine's page came out!  I spent time getting the shapes and sizes and colors just right. I was inspired by a gorgeous piece of 12x12 paper by Little Yellow Bicycle called Love Garden.  It's shimmery and glittery and so detailed and gorgeous.  So I had to design a whole layout around it.

Here are the exact shapes, sizes and colors I used!  Unless a height is given, use the Keep Proportions option to keep the shape's proportions while sizing it to the given width.

* The SCAL Shapes Library is the basic shapes you can see when pressing Control+3 in SCAL.

Design Tips

I chose a nice photo of Leo and me from Fall 2009 at Bengston's Pumpkin Farm and he printed it for me at the standard 4x6 size.  I framed it using a dark purpley gray, picking up a color from the original paper.  This helps the photo fit better since its colors don't quite coordinate.  Then I used a recent corner element freebie in the corner and a long swirly from Jacquelyn's Swirlies with some new flat bling I found at Archivers by Stampendous.  I had to put these on with an Xacto since they're so tiny.

Along the bottom of the page in the "grass" I used double-sided thin scrapbooking tape to affix a strip of "XOXO" ribbon which I got in a package by Martha Stewart Crafts.

The flowers are from Dawn's Doilies and embellished with the cutest brads by Doodlebug Design.  I affixed them with 3D Zots (pop dots) and used red embroidery floss for stems, which I just folded around and taped on the back side of the paper.

Using pink embroidery floss, I stitched around the Sunflower Frame from Swirlies (inspired by Amy's gorgeous Valentine on our forum.  I glittered the "love you" caption from our Notecard Captions collection and made a very subtle shadow background for it to help it be sturdier and stand out more.

Paper Suggestions

• I used AC Cardstock for almost everything.  This is my fave solid color cardstock because of its texture, its solid-color core (not white-core) and because of how clean it always cuts for me.
• For the photo frame, I used a random piece of purpley gray cardstock I got at Tuesday Morning (don't know brand).
• Again, for the background paper, I used a piece of 12x12 by Little Yellow Bicycle called Love Garden from the Sweet Love collection.
