PAPER

Generally, most kinds of available card stock paper will work well, but approximately 80# card stock paper was used. Projects shown were made using 12 x 12" American Crafts textured card stock paper, mostly in White and Vanilla.

AC-POWERED LIGHTS

The lanterns each feature the same size circular opening at the top. Each lantern can be illuminated using either an actual light bulb in a socket that's AC-powered (you can plug it into the wall) OR a battery-powered LED light (with an optional remote control).

If you choose to illuminate your lantern with an actual light bulb in a socket on a cord with a plug at the end, this is available on Amazon here. It is a single socket on a single cord (11-ft, black) or (6-ft, white).

You can also get three sockets on one cord, so you can illuminate THREE lanterns on one cord (17-ft, white) with a single plug.

White electrical tape is an elegant and efficient way to anchor your light bulb precisely in the center of your lantern.

Regular candelabra bulbs could technically be used, but LED light bulbs are recommended because of their cooler operating temperature. An added bonus is that they're very energy-efficient and are available in warm white, so they emit the golden glow of traditional light bulbs. These can be found anywhere lightbulbs are sold, but here's what I got from Amazon.

BATTERY-POWERED LIGHTS

If you'd like to skip the light bulbs and cord/plug, you can instead use battery-powered LED lights. These lights feature 12 LEDs in a cylindrical plastic housing, so they are quite bright. Other choices are currently available, such as warm white lights, which would look more traditional. The remote control is handy so that you can easily control them without having to open up your lantern.

Rechargeable batteries and a battery charger are also recommended so you can feel free to enjoy your lights and drain your batteries without having to keep purchasing more batteries. I also like using this battery tester to check on the "juice level" of my batteries.

Each lantern features a hidden door on the back side that can be used to change a light bulb or batteries, depending on how you choose to illuminate yours.
